Saudi finally closes embassy, recalls ambassador from Egypt in response to protests(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Saudi Arabia has recalled its ambassador to Cairo and closed its diplomatic missions in Egypt following demonstrations outside its embassy over the detention of an Egyptian lawyer in Jeddah.

According to a report by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Saudi Embassy in Cairo and the consulates in the Egyptian cities of Alexandria and Suez were closed on Saturday.

The measures were taken in response to demonstrations outside the Saudi diplomatic missions in Egypt following the announcement of the arrest of Egyptian lawyer Ahmed Mohammed al-Gizawi at Jeddah International Airport on April 17.

Saudi authorities claimed Gizawi was carrying illegal drugs.

However, the Egyptian organization of Arabic Network for Human Rights Information said Gizawi was arrested after a Saudi court sentenced him in absentia to one year in prison and 20 lashes for criticizing the Saudi regime and for his activism in favor of Egyptian detainees in Saudi prisons.

The demonstrations in Egypt were “unjustified” and Saudi and Egyptian employees of the diplomatic missions have been threatened, a Saudi official said.

“Hostile slogans were shouted out and the immunity of the diplomatic representations was violated, contrary to all international regulations,” said the Saudi official, whose name was not mentioned in the news report.

On April 24, hundreds of Egyptians held a demonstration outside the Saudi Embassy in Cairo to demand the immediate release of Gizawi. Protesters also chanted slogans against the Saudi regime.

Gizawi’s supporters say he had travelled to Saudi Arabia on pilgrimage.

A senior Hamas delegation led by its supreme leader Khaled Mishaal has discussed three important topics with the Egyptian intelligence chief Murad Muwafi in Cairo on Saturday.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - A senior Hamas delegation led by its supreme leader Khaled Mishaal has discussed three important topics with the Egyptian intelligence chief Murad Muwafi in Cairo on Saturday.

Political bureau member of Hamas and member of its delegation Sami Khater told the PIC that the first issue was that of the Palestinian prisoners who have gone on hunger strike in Israeli jails to protest harsh incarceration conditions.

He said that the issue was met with understanding on the part of the intelligence chief.

Khater said that the second issue was that of national reconciliation, since Egypt was patronizing that file, and affirmed his movement’s keenness on following up and completing that issue successfully.

The reconstruction of Gaza was the third discussed topic including importance of expediting its implementation, the Hamas leader said.

The PIC reporter in Cairo earlier said that the delegation led by Mishaal also included his deputy Dr. Mousa Abu Marzouk, and political bureau members Khater, Saleh Al-Arouri, and Khalil Al-Haya. The delegation arrived in Cairo on Friday night.

Egypt Cabinet shamefully extends apology to Saudi Arabia over embassy protests

Cabinet's statement condemns hostile 'individual acts' against Kingdom's embassy, affirms strength of Egypt-Saudi ties.

Egypt Cabinet shamefully extends apology to Saudi Arabia over embassy protests(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Egypt's Cabinet released on Saturday a statement apologizing for the actions of certain protesters against the Saudi Arabian embassy in Cairo, stressing that such acts only represent aggrieved individuals.

In the statement, the government further condemned any act against the Saudi embassy describing it as "irresponsible" and "spontaneous" moves that harm "deep-rooted" Egypt-Saudi relations.

The statement was released after Saudi Arabia decided on Saturday afternoon to withdraw its ambassador from Egypt and close its embassy and consulates in the country.

Egyptians have been protesting against the Kingdom at its embassy in the Giza district of Cairo, calling for the release of lawyer Ahmed El-Gizawi and denouncing the mistreatment of Egyptians in the oil rich country. El-Gizawi was detained for reportedly "defaming the king," after he filed a lawsuit in a South Cairo court against Saudi monarch King Abdullah Bin Abdel Aziz Al-Saud on behalf of Egyptians currently languishing in the Kingdom's prisons without charge.

Following reports that El-Gizawi had recieved a one year prison sentence and a punishment of 20 lashes, Kindgom officials denied these claims, stating that the Egyptian lawyer was arrested by Saudi authorities after being found in possession of more than 21,000 pills of anti-depressant drug Xanax, trade in which is proscribed in the Kingdom.

Egyptian cleric: Qatar, Saudi Arabia Israel’s servants
Egyptian cleric: Qatar, Saudi Arabia Israel’s servants

A senior Egyptian cleric has accused Saudi Arabia and Qatar of meddling in the internal affairs of other Muslim nations, calling the two states ‘Israel’s servants’.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Sheikh Mohammad Alaedin Madhi said the two countries were implementing an Israeli-US plan in Syria.
"Firstly, is there a democracy in Qatar and Saudi Arabia? I don’t think so. They interfered in Libya. They killed a hundred times more people than Gaddafi [killed] in Libya. They have nothing to do with Islam," Madhi said in an exclusive interview with us in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
"Saudi Arabia buys arms and weapons from the US every year. Who do they use these weapons against? They use their weapons against the Houthi Muslims,” he said, referring to the north-based Shia minority in Yemen.
“They killed Muslims in Bahrain. They threaten Syria, which is a Muslim nation. Why don’t they fight against Israel? Qatar and Saudi Arabia are Israel’s servants."
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011. The violence has claimed the lives of hundreds of people, including many security forces.
Damascus blames ‘outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups’ for the unrest, asserting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
The cleric also praised the Lebanese resistance movement of Hezbollah for standing against Israel.
"Today Lebanon’s Hezbollah is the only force challenging Israel. It’s natural that Israel seeks to destroy Hezbollah through destroying Syria and disintegrating the country. Israel wants to have a civil war in Syria to destroy Hezbollah," Madhi said.
He further criticized Saudi-owned television news channel, Al Arabiya, and the Qatar-owned broadcaster, Al Jazeera, for "serving Israeli interests."
Riyadh and Doha have already been accused of waging a civil war in Syria by supporting armed groups in the country.
According to reports, Qatar has created a mercenary force based in Turkey -- with Ankara's full knowledge -- to topple the Syrian government.

Iranian Official: Iran will respond firmly to any attack

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has highlighted Iran's defense capabilities, saying that the country would respond forcefully to any foreign attack.

Iranian Official: Iran will respond firmly to any attack
(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - "At the moment, Iran has the greatest defense capability in its history. Whoever wants to attack our country will meet with our very firm response," Mehmanparast told journalists in Warsaw on Friday.

He added that Iran's opponents are well aware of this fact and this has seriously diminished the possibility of war.

“Our adversary completely understands that should it attack our country, it will itself become the subject of a great tragedy. This is why the possibility of war is very, very weak," Mehmanparast noted.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman also criticized the West over the sanctions it has imposed on Iran over its nuclear energy program, describing them as “completely illegal and unjustified because our nation has not committed any crime."

He played down the effect of sanctions on the Iranian economy and pointed out that they have made Iran “increasingly self-sufficient in many economic sectors" and boosted its economy.

“If we were to make light of it, we could thank the US and European states for imposing sanctions because they have actually spurred economic growth," Mehmanparast noted, adding, “When growth in many Western countries is either negative or around zero, in Iran we have 6.2 percent growth in GDP.”

The US and EU imposed tough financial and oil sanctions on Iran in the beginning of 2012 in order to put pressure on Tehran over its nuclear energy program, which they allege may have covert military dimensions.

Washington and Tel Aviv have also repeatedly threatened Tehran with the "option" of a military strike.

Iran has repeatedly dismissed the accusations over its nuclear activities, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency it has the right to have a peaceful nuclear energy program.

Other Iranian officials have also promised a powerful response to any military strike against the country, warning that any such measure could result in a war that would spread beyond the Middle East.
