My God, many an enemy drew up the sword of hostility against me, honed the dagger's edge, sharpened the arrows' points, made ready deadly poisons, leveled his bow at me, and, keeping an eye on me, harbored evil thoughts to force me to swallow, against my will, the deadly bitter poison. | Ilahee kam-min a'doo-win intaz'aa a'lay'ya sayfa a'daawatih wa shah'ad'a lee z'ub-bata mud-yatih wa ar-hafa lee qawaatila sumoomih wa sad-dada ilay-ya s'awaaa-iba sihaamih wa lam tanam a'n-nee a'yun h'iraasatih wa az'mara ay-yasoomaneel-mak-rooha wa yujar-ria'nee d'ua'afa maraaratih | إِلَهِي كَمْ مِنْ عَدُوٍّ انْتَضَى عَلَيَّ سَيْفَ عَدَاوَتِهِ وَ شَحَذَ لِي ظُبَةَ مِدْيَتِهِ وَ أَرْهَفَ لِي شَبَا حَدِّهِ وَ دَافَ لِي قَوَاتِلَ سُمُومِهِ وَ سَدَّدَ إِلَيَّ (نَحْوِي) صَوَائِبَ سِهَامِهِ وَ لَمْ تَنَمْ عَنِّي عَيْنُ حِرَاسَتِهِ وَ أَضْمَرَ أَنْ يَسُومَنِي الْمَكْرُوهَ وَ يُجَرِّعَنِي ذُعَافَ مَرَارَتِهِ

and perceived my isolation amid the multitude of gathering enemies, sitting in ditches, ready to pounce upon me, while I gave no thought to sitting in ambush and retaliating. So with Thy might, Thou came to stand by me, and Thy help made me strong | wa wah'-datee fee katheerim-mimman naawaanee wa ar-s'ada lee feemaa lam ua'mil fik-ree fil-ir-s'aadi lahum bimith-lih faay-yad-tanee biqoo-watik wa shadad-ta azree binus'ratik | وَ وَحْدَتِي فِي كَثِيرٍ مِمَّنْ نَاوَانِي وَ أَرْصَدَ لِي فِيمَا لَمْ أُعْمِلْ فِكْرِي فِي الْإِرْصَادِ لَهُمْ بِمِثْلِهِ فَأَيَّدْتَنِي بِقُوَّتِكَ وَ شَدَدْتَ أَزْرِي بِنُصْرَتِكَ

and gave no hand to his grudging deed, and did not allow him to assuage the fury of his anger. Biting his thumb, he turned back on his heels, and his comrades, ashamed, dispersed in haste. | wa lam yash-fi ghaleelah wa lam tab-rud h'azaazaatu ghayzi'h wa qad a'z-z'a a'lay-ya anaamilahu wa ad-bara mooal-liyan qad akh-faqat saraayaah | وَ لَمْ يَشْفِ غَلِيلَهُ وَ لَمْ تَبْرُدْ حَزَازَاتُ غَيْظِهِ وَ قَدْ عَضَّ عَلَيَّ أَنَامِلَهُ وَ أَدْبَرَ مُوَلِّياً قَدْ أَخْفَقَتْ سَرَايَاهُ

My God, many a disobedient tyrant has tried treacherously to oppress me, has laid traps to catch me, was continuously spying on me, and, like a beast of prey who lies in wait for his prey, has tried to surprise me, whereas in public he received me with open arms and a welcoming smile on his face, as if innocent.
So when Thou took notice of his clandestine trickery and foul play and the fact that in spite of professing the same faith he was devising schemes to injure me, then Thou contemptuously caught hold of him and threw him down headlong, completely | fa-lammaa raayta daghlala sareeratihi wa qub-h'a mantawaa a'ilayhi li-shareekihi fee mil-latihi wa as'-bah'a muj-libal-lee fee bagh-yih ar-kas-tahu li-ummi ra-sih wa atay-ta bunyaanahu min asaasihi, | فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتَ دَغَلَ سَرِيرَتِهِ وَ قُبْحَ مَا انْطَوَى عَلْيَهِ لِشَرِيكِهِ فِي مِلَّتِهِ وَ أَصْبَحَ مُجْلِباً لِي (إِلَيَّ) فِي بَغْيِهِ أَرْكَسْتَهُ لِأُمِّ رَأْسِهِ وَ أَتَيْتَ بُنْيَانَهُ مِنْ أَسَاسِهِ
after which he found himself in the ditch he had dug for me, smeared with the dust below his feet poverty and disease overtook him. and by putting his own rope around his neck. Shame and disappointment came upon him, he suffered disgrace and dishonour, his pride and arrogance gave way to humility, his power turned into helplessness, and finally, at the last moment, when he was sure to overwhelm me, he fell into his own trap and was caught and bound with the rope made for me in the days of his authority.

So praise be to Thee, O Lord, in [Thy] invulnerable Omnipotence, and prudent Forbearance. Bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and let me be among those who thank Thee for Thy bounties and remember Thee for Thy favours. | fa-lakal-h'am-du yaa rab-bi mim-muq-tadaril-laa yugh-lab, wa d'ee anaatil-laa yaa'-jal s'al-li a'laa muh'ammad wa aa-li muh'ammad waja'al-nee li-naa'-maaa-ika minash-shakireen, wali-aaa-laa-ika minad' d'aakireen | فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ يَا رَبِّ مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ وَ ذِي أَنَاةٍ لاَ يَعْجَلُ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اجْعَلْنِي لِنَعْمَائِكَ مِنَ الشَّاكِرِينَ وَ لِآلاَئِكَ مِنَ الذَّاكِرِينَ
My God, many an envier, sick in his throat with grudges and choked up with anger, has cast a slur on me in an attempt to hurt me with his loose talk and to brand me unfairly with his own defects, slyly frowned upon me, exposed my integrity to his insinuating remarks, and wrongly put the burden of his sins on my shoulders. | ilahee wa kam-min h'aasidin shariqa bih'as-ratih wa a'doo-win shajiya bi-ghayzi'h wa salaqanee bih'ad-di lisaanih wa wakhazanee bimooqi a'ynih wa jaa'lanee gharaz'al-li maraameeh wa qal-ladanee khilaalaal-lam tazal feeh | إِلَهِي وَ كَمْ مِنْ حَاسِدٍ شَرِقَ بِحَسْرَتِهِ (بِحَسَدِهِ) وَ عَدُوٍّ شَجِيَ بِغَيْظِهِ وَ سَلَقَنِي بِحَدِّ لِسَانِهِ وَ وَخَزَنِي بِمُوقِ عَيْنِهِ وَ جَعَلَنِي (جَعَلَ عِرْضِي) غَرَضاً لِمَرَامِيهِ وَ قَلَّدَنِي خِلاَلاً لَمْ تَزَلْ فِيهِ
Therefore, I called upon Thee, O my Lord, expecting to receive Thy help, believing in Thy prompt response, confident of Thy immediate action to disperse the affliction, a fact of which I have always been aware, and knowing full well that whoever comes under Thy merciful protection is never betrayed, and whoever turns to Thee for help is never turned out. | naadaytuka yaa rab-bi mus-tajeeraam bika waa thiqaaam bisur-a'ti ijaabatik mutawak-kilan a'laa maa lam azal ataa'r-rafuhu min h'us-ni difaai'k a'aliman an-nahu laa yuz'-tahadu man aawaa ila z'il-li kanafik, | نَادَيْتُكَ (فَنَادَيْتُ) يَا رَبِّ مُسْتَجِيراً بِكَ وَاثِقاً بِسُرْعَةِ إِجَابَتِكَ مُتَوَكِّلاً عَلَى مَا لَمْ أَزَلْ أَتَعَرَّفُهُ مِنْ حُسْنِ دِفَاعِكَ عَالِماً أَنَّهُ لاَ يُضْطَهَدُ مَنْ أَوَى إِلَى ظِلِّ كَنَفِكَ

My God, here stands Thy humble servant, who knows and testifies that Thou art one, and makes admission of falling short of discharging his duty towards Thee, and gives evidence of Thy countless blessings and excellent kindness and abundant good. | allaahumma wa had'aa maqaamu a'abdin d'aleelin la'-tarafa laka bit-taw-h'eed wa aqar-ra a'laa naf-sihi bit-taq-s'eeri fee adaaa-i h'aq-qik wa shahida laka bi-subooghi nia'matika a'ilayhi, wa jameeli a'adatika i'ndahu, wa ih'-saanika ilayh | اللَّهُمَّ وَ هَذَا (فَهَذَا) مَقَامُ عَبْدٍ ذَلِيلٍ اعْتَرَفَ لَكَ بِالتَّوْحِيدِ وَ أَقَرَّ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ بِالتَّقْصِيرِ فِي أَدَاءِ حَقِّكَ وَ شَهِدَ لَكَ بِسُبُوغِ نِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيْهِ وَ جَمِيلِ عَادَتِكَ عِنْدَهُ وَ إِحْسَانِكَ إِلَيْهِ
So, my God, my Master, mercifully give me what I want through Thy mercy, so that I may aspire for Thy mercy, and through it reach the height where Thy approval is available and where there is freedom from Thy displeasure, in the name of Thy Might and overswaying Power, and for the sake of Thy Prophet, Muhammad, may the blessings of Allah be upon him and upon his family. | fahab lee yaa ilahee wasay-yidee min faz'lika maa ureeduhu sababan ilaa rah'-matika wa at-takhid'uhu sul-laman aa'-ruju feehi ilaa mar-z'iatika wa aa-manu bihi min sakhat'ik bi-i'z-zatika wa taw-lik wa bi-h'aq-qi nabee-yika muh'ammadin s'al-laalahu a'ilayhi wa aa-lih | فَهَبْ لِي يَا إِلَهِي وَ سَيِّدِي مِنْ فَضْلِكَ مَا أُرِيدُهُ (سَبَباً) إِلَى رَحْمَتِكَ وَ أَتَّخِذُهُ سُلَّماً أَعْرُجُ فِيهِ إِلَى مَرْضَاتِكَ وَ آمَنُ بِهِ مِنْ سَخَطِكَ بِعِزَّتِكَ وَ طَوْلِكَ وَ بِحَقِّ نَبِيِّكَ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ
