Special ceremonies are being held across Iran to mark the 34th anniversary of the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution that toppled the US-backed Pahlavi regime.

The ceremonies kicked off all over the country on Thursday morning at 9:33 a.m. local time (0603 GMT), the time when the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, returned to the Iranian capital, Tehran, on February 1, 1979 after a 15-year exile in Paris.

High-ranking Iranian officials and people from all walks of life came together at the mausoleum of the founder of the Islamic Republic in southern Tehran to renew their allegiance to the ideals of late Imam Khomeini.

The day of Imam Khomeini's return to Iran marks the beginning of the Ten Days of Dawn, which culminates with the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution on February 10.

Iranians have arranged different programs to celebrate the event by honoring Imam Khomeini's historic return and the memory of the revolution’s martyrs.

On Wednesday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited the mausoleum of the late Imam Khomeini to pay tribute to the founder of the Islamic Revolution.

The Iranian nation toppled the US-backed Pahlavi regime 34 years ago, ending 2,500 years of monarchic rule in the country.

The Islamic Revolution, under the guidance of Imam Khomeini, established a new political system based on Islamic values and democracy.

Ahmadinejad: Despite risks I am ready to fly to space

Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 4 /Trend S.Isayev, D. Khatinoglu/

Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Wednesday that despite the obvious risks, he looks at himself as a possible person who could fly to outer space, ISNA reported.

"I am sure we will be able to send a human into space in 4-5 years," he said. "Despite risks, I am ready to be the first one to go."

Further on, Ahmadinejad spoke of the progress that Iran has achieved in scientific spheres in recent times, and said that despite the effect of sanctions, this progress has continued.

"Some nations say Iran is in very bad situation, but despite everything, we progress," Ahmadinejad said.

On Jan. 28, Iran successfully launched a Kavoshgar-4 missile with a space capsule Pisgham, with a monkey on board, into space.

The launch was successful, as reaching certain speed, the satellite returned back to Earth.

The on-board computer recorded environmental, biological data, as well as images on all phases of the launch.

Previously, Iran has launched a rat, two turtles and a worm on its Kavoshgar-3 rocket in February 2010.

In 2009, the Iranian space agency launched a telecommunications satellite onboard its Safir-2 rocket.

The new space capsule and the Kavoshgar-4 rocket were both unveiled by Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in early February 2011.

Ultimately, Iran has said it aims to launch a human into space by 2020, and to put an astronaut on the moon by 2025.

The Islamic republic denies military motives for its space program, but Western nations fear that Iran is moving toward developing a ballistic missile capable of deploying a nuclear warhead.
Iran to Launch Home-Made Satellite from New Space Center Soon

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi announced on Monday that the construction phase of the country's new space launch center is almost complete and the country will launch a home-made satellite from the center in the near future.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - "A Imam Khomeini Space Launch Center is in its final stage and Simorgh Satellite carrier will be launched from this center" in the near future, Vahidi said, addressing a group of space technology researchers today.

He added that Iran plans to send different types of satellites, including Tolou (Dawn) into the orbit on the back of Simorgh (Phoenix) satellite carriers.

The minister further said that President Ahmadinejad's administration has drawn a 10-year space program and made great achievements, some of which are owned only by five world countries.

On January 28, the Defense Ministry's Aerospace Industries Organization announced that it has sent a monkey into the space on the back of Pishgam (Pioneer) explorer rocket, and that it has brought back and recovered the living cargo.

The Aerospace Industries Organization said it had sent the living creature into space aboard an indigenous biocapsule as a prelude to sending humans into space.

The Aerospace Industries Organization said the capsule was sent to an orbit beyond 120km in altitude and carried out telemetry of the environmental data records.

The explorer rocket was launched by the Aerospace Industries Organization and it returned to the Earth after reaching the desired speed and altitude, and the living creature (monkey) was retrieved and found alive.

The Islamic republic, which first put a satellite into orbit in 2009, has outlined an ambitious space program and has, thus far, made giant progress in the field despite western sanctions and pressures against its advancement.

Iran has taken wide strides in aerospace. The country sent the first biocapsule of living creatures into space in February 2011, using its home-made Kavoshgar-3 (Explorer-3) carrier.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced in 2010 that Iran plans to send astronauts into space in 2024. But, later he said that the issue had gone under a second study at a cabinet meeting and that the cabinet had decided to implement the plan in 2019, five years earlier than the date envisaged in the original plan.

Omid (hope) was Iran's first research satellite that was designed for gathering information and testing equipment. After orbiting for three months, Omid successfully completed its mission without any problem. It completed more than 700 orbits over seven weeks and reentered the Earth's atmosphere on April 25, 2009.

After launching Omid, Tehran unveiled three new satellites called Tolou, Mesbah II and Navid, respectively. Iran has also unveiled its latest achievements in designing and producing satellite carriers.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The tanks, which have been upgraded by military experts in the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces, were unveiled on Monday as part of the Ten-Day Dawn celebrations commemorating the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran.

Commander of the Iranian Army's Ground Forces Brigadier General Ahmad-Reza Pourdastan as well as several other high-ranking military officials attended the unveiling ceremony of the tanks.

Earlier on January 15, Pourdastan said that the fire control system and the stabilizer of the new version of the Zolfaqar tank have been upgraded, adding that the tank will be mass-produced after receiving the approval of the office of the chief of the general staff of the Armed Forces.

Iran’s Zolfaqar tank has a distinctive steel-welded turret and is operated by a crew of three.

The tank is armed with a 125mm smoothbore 2A46 gun, which is fitted with a fume extractor. Its secondary armament consists of a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun and a 12.7mm machine gun.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

On February 2, Iran unveiled the indigenous Qaher-313 advanced fighter jet, which is ultra-advanced and capable of evading radars.

Tehran has repeatedly assured other nations that its military might poses no threat to other countries, saying that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
