Syrians to vote on new constitution
|
(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Millions of Syrians are expected to vote on their country’s new constitution on Sunday. Posters and banners calling on the people to come out and vote have been placed everywhere in the capital and all around the country.
More than 14 million people over the age of 18 are eligible to vote at 13,835 polling stations, which will open for 12 hours at 7:00 am (0500GMT).
The draft of the newly proposed constitution was made public several days before the referendum takes place. Copies have been distributed among the people to let them know what changes the new constitution will enact.
The draft constitution meets the democratic demands of the majority of Syrians, and will be based on pluralism.
President Bashar al-Assad pledged to hold parliamentary elections within 90 days if Syria’s new constitution is approved.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011. Hundreds of people, including security forces, have been killed in the unrest.
Damascus blames ‘outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups’ for the unrest, asserting that it is being orchestrated from abroad. The West and the Syrian opposition, however, accuse the Syrian government of killing the protesters.

Arming Syrian rebels 'excellent idea: Saudi Arabia
|
(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - "I think it's an excellent idea... because they have to protect themselves," Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal said before a meeting with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the sidelines of a conference on Syria in Tunisia.
The pro-opposition so-called Friends of Syria conference organized by a number of Western countries and the Arab League kicked off in Tunisia on Friday to discuss the Syrian unrest.
Faisal’s remarks could yet be seen as another signal of Riyadh's intervention in a foreign country after it sent hundreds of troops to neighboring Bahrain to crush peaceful protests there.
Clinton also threatened Syrian President Bashar al-Assad with a "heavy cost" if he refuses to resign.
Meanwhile, Obama has threatened to mount pressure on the Syrian government.
"We're going to continue to keep the pressure up and look for every tool available” to put pressure on Syrian government, Obama told reporters in Washington.
Pro-Israeli US Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich have also called for arming the Syrian opposition with the help of Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011. Damascus blames ‘outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups’ for the unrest, asserting that it is being orchestrated from abroad. The West and the Syrian opposition, however, accuse the Syrian government of killing the protesters.
Ulama Iran bidas serangan berbaur Zionis di Syria
|

Iran’s strategic policy is to strengthen Lebanese army: minister
|
(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Iran’s principled policy is to promote the convergence of regional countries, enhance security and stability in the region, and oppose any infringement on the rights of the world’s nations, Vahidi said.
Lebanon should have a strong army to defend its interests in the region, he said.
Vahidi added that Iran believes that stability and security in Lebanon and the region are interlinked.
He also stated that Lebanon should be protected against threats, saying, “Today, the resistance in Lebanon is not unique to a certain group or denomination, and the army and resistance are two wings by which Lebanon is flying toward development, progress, and stability.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, Vahidi said that Ghosn’s visit to Iran provided a good opportunity for the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the area of defense.
Commenting on the situation in Syria, the Iranian defense minister said that the United States and its allies in the region are seeking to undermine Syria, which is on the front line of the resistance against the Zionist regime, with the aim of saving this regime.
Lebanon keen to increase defense cooperation with Iran
Ghosn thanked the Islamic Republic for the stance it has adopted toward Lebanon, particularly during Lebanon’s 33-day war with Israel in 2006, and Iran’s offer to strengthen his country’s army.
He also expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries would increase.
Commenting on the situation in Syria, the Lebanese defense minister said that the pressure exerted on Syria is due to its opposition to the Zionist regime.
All plots against Iran have failed
The Lebanese defense minister thanked Iran for the assistance it has provided to the Lebanese people in hard times and said that the hegemonistic powers have hatched numerous conspiracies against the Islamic Republic, but all of which have ended in failure since the Iranian people firmly adhere to the principle of velayat-e faqih (rule of the supreme jurisprudent).

'Global March to Jerusalem' Forms Board in Iran
|
(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) -Imam Khamenei regarding Iran's open support for different movements or groups against Israel, Hossein Shaikhol-Eslam, the Secretary of the Board for the Global March to Jerusalem (GMJ), emphasized that the Global March to Jerusalem is a symbol representing the protests of the different movements from the free nations of the world against the occupation, oppression, injustice and Judaization of Jerusalem.
Yet, he underlined that the present step needs to be taken into consideration by all anti-Zionist groups.
Dr. Ruivaran, a regional analyst and another member of the board of the Global Jerusalem to Jerusalem in Iran, also stated at the meeting (which took place in the office of Ummat-e-Wahida) that the new strategy offered by the Supreme Leader is based on the new regional boundaries and the unity on the basis of the axis of resistance and opposition towards the occupying regime of Jerusalem.
He stated this strategy is in opposition to the proposed strategies from some Arab governments in the region that wish to divide the region based on religious differences.
He said it is on this basis that the support of the Global March to Jerusalem is a strategic step towards strengthening unity against Israel in the region.
Seyed Saleem Ghafuri, the Head of the Board of Executives for the Global March to Jerusalem, announced the arrival of the caravan in Iran as 24th of Isfand (March 14).
He stated that the movement which consists of different nations will go towards the boundaries of the occupying regime from Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt. In their masses, alongside the Palestinian refugees which reside in the mentioned countries, on the 10th of Farvardin (March 30), they will go towards the closest possible point to Jerusalem.
He emphasized that the special quality in this movement is that it consists of people from different creeds and religions of the world who stand united believing that Jerusalem is a city holy for all religions.
He stressed that this action has led to the built up of fear in the occupying regime of Jerusalem.

Tunisians Say Conference Actually for “Enemies of Syria”
|
(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - “We will not accept this conference, as we will not accept anything that could destroy our countries,” Al-Manar reporter quoted one of the protestors as saying.
“This conference will only succeed on our dead bodies… whether this conspiracy was Saudi, Qatari, American or Zionist, the Tunisian people will be able to confront it,” another angry protestor said.
The protestors assured that this conference should rather be called the “Enemies of Syria”, raising the Tunisian and Syrian flags, as well as banners condemning their government’s initiative to host the meeting in their country.
“No for conspiring against Syria the supporter of resistance,” one banner read, while another one indicated that “Damascus is the center of Arabism and the supporter of Palestine”.
In contrast, the “Friends of Syria” conference mainly focused on stating support to the Syrian opposition and imposing more sanctions on the regime.
A statement issued at the end of the conference agreed on taking the necessary measures for intensifying sanctions and pressure on the Syrian regime and its supporters.
The measures included a travel ban on the Syrian regime figures and freezing their funds, stopping investments, oil trade, and financial transactions, limiting diplomatic relations, preventing arms selling to the Syrian regime, and recognizing the “Syrian National Council” as the representative of the Syrian people who want democratic change in Syria.

Syrian Paper ... Blown Away By Hard Choice?!
|
More than ten months have passed and the Syrian crisis hasn't witnessed yet its track towards solution... The crisis has attracted all the key players on the regional and international political stage.
Some have drawn the direction of their diplomatic positions with the quill of interests associated with the fall of the current regime, including the United States, the European Union's countries, Turkey, as well as Arab countries and particularly Crown kingdoms.
However, others like Iran, Russia and China remained firm in support of their strategic ally.
Damascus' reply to its loyal friends was manifested by political and economic reforms that the Syrian leadership announced its adoption through launching the process of their application in more than one occasion.
And between the battle of positions and international countermeasures, the decisive word lies in Syria's internal front.
This is what the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad clearly read in the book of recent field developments in his country what drove him to declare openly in his recent speech that "what Syria is facing is an unprecedented battle.
Al-Asaad remarks came in parallel to the outbreak of terrorist bombings and assassinations that hit for the first time the neighborhoods and streets of the capital, Damascus, which was until the near time away from security disturbances.
Today, the political and ground scene reflects the following:
In the field: As clashes between the Syrian army and militants in some troubled areas such as Homs, Daraa, Idlib and other parts of central and northern Syria floated to the surface, the scene included new factors resembled by armed groups' control to areas and entire neighborhoods.
A fact that resulted from army's reluctance in moving towards a speedy settlement in order to prevent the loss of citizens' lives and thus waiting the right time to attack.
Meanwhile, another factor of Syrian army's hesitation is manifested by the reinforcement and cross-border support to these armed groups, especially from Turkey and some European countries.
In this context, Iran uncovered that it "possessed documents proving West's and particularly French arming to weaponry groups in Syria."
All these mentioned factors enhanced the ability of these armed groups to impose their military presence which is no longer a secret to be covered, not even on the Arab observers' mission to Syria, whose Sudanese Chief General Mohammad Ahmad al-Dabi asserted that "some Syrian areas have become resistant to authorities."
Similarly, the development was also recognized by the Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil al-Arabi, who said in the latest Arab Ministerial meeting in Cairo, which approved the renewal of the Observers' Mission, that "there are areas controlled by armed and undisciplined groups," warning "of the possibility of civil war."
At the political level, the US-France front is characterized by chilliness taking into account the presidential election that the two countries are preparing for.
In parallel, The Turkish axis is busy re-counting its calculations after the late waking up on the nightmare of political and economic losses it is suffering.
Ankara's losses began to appear on more than one level as a result of the deep gap between the target of toppling President al-Assad's regime and the tools to achieve this goal on the ground.
Moreover, the ongoing confrontation continues in the Arab camp, between callers to the necessity of giving the Syrian regime an opportunity to perform its reformist intentions, and between those who adhere to topple the regime even at the expense of the last drop of Syrian blood.
Here, political backstage talks about current clash of visions that is taking place behind closed doors between Cairo on one hand, and Qatar and Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, in dealing with the Syrian paper.
The two kingdoms are pressuring towards dragging military Arab forces to Damascus to be followed by an international military intervention of blue hats (UNIF) type under the title of the Security Council.
The two Gulf countries aim is particularly linked to excluding a strong regional player, a partner to Iran and the resistance forces in the region i.e. Syria.
Cairo defends the option of peaceful solution suggesting the need to give the Syrian regime opportunity of applying promises of reform.
As the Egyptian military keeps in mind the threat of armed groups, it notes to roots of ideas that are established on killing all those who carry contrary views even if they belonged to the same sect and religion.
This was clearly reflected in the recent meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Cairo.
The desire of the AL's Secretary-General and former Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Arab appeared in his willingness to extend the Observers' Mission to another month, speaking of "relative cooperation of the Syrian authorities."
In return, Qatari Prime Minister Hamad Bin Jassim highlighted his country's desire for "dragging Arab troops and UN interference" while the Saudi wrath appeared in the speech of the Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal talking of the "withdrawal of his country's delegation from the Arab mission in Syria."
On the other front of the battle, Iran, Russia and China haven't stopped reiterating their support for the Syrian regime in its edition of reforms, warning of the of civil war phantom whose first and last loser would be the Syrian people.
In this context, and after the Russian's and Chinese's repeated letters through the veto in the Security Council against any decision aimed at targeting Damascus, the announcement of a clearly defined military aspect was delivered from Moscow through sending a warship to the Syrian coasts of Tartous.
The well-read message clearly warned all those concerned that "any aggression against Damascus is a red line that Western countries mustn't try to pass."

Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah: Israeli Thought Is Obviously Behind Desecration of Quran
|
(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Speaking Friday evening at a ceremony held in Beirut to pay tribute to the martyred commanders, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah added that Israeli thoughts are behind many of the world incidents including desecration of the Quran in the US or Afghanistan.
He said when the Afghan people protest against Quran burning they are fired upon and that it is an Israeli trend to attack people and desecrate the prophets.
He stressed that the occupying regime of Israel continues to attack Islamic sanctities and Arab nations. "Today, the Zionist regime is going on with occupation of Palestinian lands, and killing and detaining its people.”
Referring to the recent bombings in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, Nasrallah said Israel was behind the blast. "So far hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have been killed in such explosions or by occupying US forces. Since the start of the occupation of Iraq by Americans, we have said that Israel seeks to destroy Iraq because given the opportunity, a powerful government will be established in Iraq…The Israelis do not want Iraq to blossom… they want countries situated in the east of occupied Palestine to be ruined and unstable.”
Pointing to Takfiri (those accusing others of apostasy) groups that are affiliated to US and Israeli intelligence services, he said these groups have widely spread in the region and stressed the need for the countries of the region to exercise vigilance in the face of Israeli threats.
On the situation in Syria, he emphasized that the problems should be solved through political approaches. "There have been efforts in Syria to resolve the issues but there are some who are against a political solution.”
He added that the US and NATO that are unable to send in forces have resorted to provocation and sending arms to the country.
Elsewhere in his remarks, secretary general of Hezbollah touched on the situation in the Saudi cities of Al-Awamiya and Qatif where security forces have heavily cracked down on popular uprisings and said people in these cities are only pursuing their rights.
He also warned that the US-Israeli plot in the region is to instigate sectarian and ethnic clashes.
Full Speech of Sayyed Nasrallah in Hezbollah’s Nabi Sheeth Ceremony
|
(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The ceremony commenced with some verses from the holy Quran endowed to the souls of Sayyed Ali Al-Moussawi and the martyr leaders- Sheikh Ragheb Harb, Sayyed Abbas Al-Moussawi and Hajj Imad Mughniyeh. A video for Sayyed Abbas talking to resistance fighters was shown during the ceremony.
In the name of Al-Moussawi’s family and the martyrs' families, Sayyed Yasser, son of Sayyed Abbas, thanked people who attended the ceremony, in general, and Sayyed Nasrallah, in particular for sharing with them condolences.
Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah addressed people at the memorial service through a large screen via video link. Sayyed Nasrallah began his speech by talking about death and how it subjugates human beings and reminds every individual of his real value. On Sayyed Abu Hussein Al-Moussawi, Sayyed Nasrallah said “he did not miss any opportunity to offer his help for the resistance, he even asked to be allowed to fight with the resistance fighters. He was ready to sacrifice everything for the sake of the Islamic Resistance .”
“In memory of the martyr leaders we must preserve their great legacy,” Sayyed Nasrallah added.
We don't Fear Israel
His eminence commented on the latest statement of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about attacking Lebanon.
“This reflects Israel’s mentality that is based on killing, spreading fear, and violating sanctities, since its beginning and until today.”
Netanyahu had reportedly said on Wednesday that an Israeli strike against Lebanon would be supported by the United States and countries of the ‘Arab Gulf’. In addition, he remarked that there is no such thing as Lebanon on the world map.
“We should be aware of Israel's role in the violations of sanctities in the world, like the ones that took place in the United States and Afghanistan,” Hezbollah secretary general said concerning the burning of copies of the holy Quran blatantly.
“The Zionist schemes aim at turning the conflict into a Christian-Muslim sectarian one and we, as Muslims, should be careful when defending our prophets not to desecrate other prophets, and we must recognize the Israeli hands in chaos in our region.”
Sayyed Nasrallah said that lately, bombings took place in Baghdad where car bombs were placed in the morning light, “this is a terrible murder and this is not brand new. If we count the number of Iraqis killed by car bombs and suicide bombings we’ll find hundreds of thousands of deaths, with the exclusion of those killed by the occupation.”
“Why is this proscription for the blood of Iraqis? Who wants to destroy Iraq? I just remind you of a statement we used to say from the beginning of the US occupation to Iraq, and it is that the Israeli scheme is to destroy Iraq because if it was allowed to recover it would be a strong country with huge potentials. We all know that the Iraqi people are educated and therefore they could be in front of a new model. Israelis don’t want this Iraq because of their religious backgrounds and expectations, because they believe that the wind of change will come from the East (Iran, Iraq and Occupied Palestine). So, they want these countries to be destroyed and remain plunged with conflicts. We must recognize that Israeli and US intelligence are penetrating Takfiri groups when overlooking the utter killing in Somalia, Pakistan and in some Arab countries,” his eminence pointed out.
Regarding Israel’s threats against Lebanon, Sayyed Nasrallah said that “we have learned from our martyr leaders Sayyed Abbas, Sheikh Ragheb, and Hajj Imad, that we should not fear. Neither Netanyahu nor Barak or Olmert… scare us. Let them say whatever they want, threaten and do whatever they want. In the past, when Israel was according to people strong and invincible it did no scare us, so how about the case today! In the past when we were of very small numbers and had small number of arms, it did not scare us even though it was in the era of its major generals Sharon and Rabin… so how about the case today, while we are of tens of thousands who carry the spirit, firmness, and courage of Sayyed Abbas!”
“For sure, these don’t scare us at all…” his eminence stressed, assuring that the Israeli statements are part of the psychological war.
Region Passing through Transitional, Historic Stage
He assured that we should be aware of the developments inside the Zionist entity, in the region, and in our country, especially as the region is now passing through a transitional and historic stage, reiterating that Lebanon cannot be separated from the regional developments, because it is affected by all what is drawn for the region.
“Today when the Americans and the Israelis draw a project for the region, they cannot ignore the role and affect of Lebanon in the countries’ equations and this is because of the resistance and the army, people, and resistance formula,” Sayyed Nasrallah further stated, considering that Lebanon’s choice to disassociate itself from the regional developments is a just settlement so that the government continues.
He assured that “we should be aware and responsible towards what is happening in the region,” adding that “after 20 years of resistance we still see that the priority is to confront the Israeli threat on Lebanon and the region, and our means to confront it is resistance and the tripartite formula, the army, people, and resistance.”
Importance of Internal Security, Political Stability
Based on that, his eminence indicated that seeing the current regional situation, and from the resistance’s position in confronting the Israeli danger, “we stress the importance of internal security and political stability in Lebanon.”
“Those who want riot in the region and want to push Syria, Iraq or other countries into internal civil or sectarian wars, also want the same thing for Lebanon… therefore, out of responsibility and concern, we should verbally and practically avoid anything that could ignite such incitements,” Sayyed Nasrallah said, pointing out that “even in diverse issues, such as the Syrian situation, we should all be able to express our position from the developments there without using an inciting language.”
“The method to deal with all the attempts to stir up incitements in the region is by limiting them to their areas first, preventing their expansion and then putting them down. This is the humanitarian, moral and religious responsibility of any concerned and loyal person,” Hezbollah Secretary General stated.
“My brothers and sisters, we, as human beings who belong to the Abrahamic religion, to Ibrahim, Moussa, Issa, and Mohammad (PBUT), we are people of mercy and we grieve over bloodshed in any place, in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan… but it is not enough to grieve and feel pain, we should look for the right stance and performance that would stop such incitements and conflicts,” Sayyed Nasrallah went on saying.
Lebanese Government's Duty
His eminence tackled the Lebanese government’s role. He pointed to the importance of preserving this government so that the political and security stability continues. However, he emphasized that this should not be an excuse for the cabinet elements not to be productive and active in other fields.
He said that the government’s role is not restricted to preserving stability and security only, but it should be responsible on the security, political, development, financial, economic, social, and administrative levels.
In this context, Sayyed Nasrallah referred to the gas and oil file, indicating that “this country cannot continue to live under poverty and debt”, and called on the government to follow up the Lebanese oil in the sea “because Lebanon cannot continue to rely on foreign aid for these are not given for free”.
“America and the West are controlling the world countries today by their hunger and debts, Sayyed Nasrallah stated, adding: “When America and Europe give aid for Lebanon, it is not because of their love to the Lebanese, but because of the political role that they want it to play in their agenda.”
“Lebanon cannot have its real sovereignty, independence and free decision while it is completely reliant and in need of the West,” he added.
International Attempts to Distort Resistance Image
On another level, Sayyed Nasrallah commented on the former Egyptian Internal Affairs Minister’s claim that Hezbollah and Hamas members shot at protesters, dubbing it “an attempt to distort the resistance's image”.
He also sarcastically criticized the various claims that Hezbollah is present in different countries in the world, and assured: “We respect all the countries and peoples and we don't interfere in anyone's affairs. We only take political stances, especially if they were related to our central cause”.
Finding Political Solution
Sayyed Nasrallah repeated his invitation for the Arab and Islamic world to find political solutions for its problems, highlighting the insistence on putting aside any such solution in Syria.
His eminence pointed out that the West neither wants a political solution to the crisis in Syria, nor does it want to militarily interfere there, because it only wants the conflict to be among Arabs.
“There are two parts fighting in Syria, but let us see who is determined to fight. Who is determined to reject any political solution? Who is determined to reject any dialogue? Who is pushing for more fighting? Listen to Clinton, listen to the Israeli and the West.”
Here, Sayyed Nasrallah assured that “of course, they want an Arab fight. Neither America is ready to send its troops to Syria, nor the NATO… because they don’t want more soldiers to be killed. They send money and arms so that the Syrians fight each other. They ask the Arabs to send to Syria the militants who they previously sent to Iraq so that it gets destroyed.”
Hezbollah secretary general also referred to the Bahraini situation, considering that “a political solution in Bahrain is prohibited even if the government wanted it,” in reference to a regional and international role there.
Moreover, he highlighted the incidents in Saudi Arabia, pointing to the harsh response to the protests taking place in Qatif and Al-Awamia.
“Protesters there are not calling for toppling the regime, they are rather demanding some reforms, rights and developments in one of the poorest areas in Saudi Arabia, knowing that it is one of the richest areas in oil,” Sayyed Nasrallah said.
In conclusion, Sayyed Nasrallah reassured that America and Israel’s goals are to destroy and spread riot in the region, and to ignite sectarian, national, racial … conflicts. However, he assured that “no matter how much America tries to improve its image today; people are aware now of the American and Israeli projects.”
“As long as America and the West adopt Israel that violates Al-Aqsa mosque on daily basis, as well as the churches and mosques in Palestine, kills, and occupies lands, it will not be accepted… and this is why it works on creating conflicts,” he said.
